My Fairphone has arrived! I am now a very happy owner of an ethical smartphone, replacing my trusty but battered Samsung Galaxy SII. The consumer electronics supply chain is notorious for human rights issues so it’s promising to see there is now an ethical alternative available. Fairphone is created by a social enterprise who are committed toward using conflict free minerals, supporting local economies, investing in employee wellbeing and improving the lifecycle of smartphones. There’s loads more information on their website and it’s available from The Phone Coop in the UK. First impressions are it’s chunkier and heavier than what I am used to but the build quality feels solid and the user experience is reliable.
